PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the operation of two units of elevators even when a control device for one elevator fails without disabling the lifting of the failed elevator. SOLUTION: This elevator device comprises a balance weight fixing means 16 fixable a shared balance weight 10 to a specified position. When the control devices 1A and 1B of the elevators take in fail information when the control device of the mating elevator is disabled due to the failure of the control device, a brake release instruction signal for instructing the release of the braking state of the brake of a hoist for the mating elevator is outputted to hoists 15A and 15B, and a lock instruction signal for instructing the fixing of the balance weight 10 to a specified position is outputted to a fixing means 16. After the balance weight 10 is fixed and the hoist of the mating elevator is freed, in addition to the car call and hall call information for the elevator, the car call information for the mating elevator is taken in to control the operations of the cars of the elevator and the mating elevator according to a pre-set specified tentative operation program.
