PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for die casting capable of filling molten metal from a molten metal holding furnace inside a mold cavity in a state of no mixture of an oxide at high speed, nearly completely discharging gas inside the cavity, effectively pressuring the molten metal inside the closed cavity, and easily providing homogeneous products without entraining gas and generating a shrink cavity at low equipment cost, and a method therefor. SOLUTION: The apparatus for die casting is equipped with a casting sleeve 5 communicating with a mold cavity C, a stock 9 communicating with the casting sleeve, a molten metal holding furnace 7 in which the lower end of the stoke is arranged at a lower part than the lowest position of a liquid face lowered by one time pouring molten metal to the mold cavity, a casting means for supplying the molten metal from the molten metal holding furnace inside the casting sleeve, and a plunger 6 sliding and moving inside the casting sleeve. In the apparatus, when an opening form feeding out molten metal inside the casting sleeve is closed by the plunger, the front part of a plunger tip inside the casting sleeve is filled with the molten metal.
