POLYURETHANE FOAM AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION THEREOF

A polyurethane foam comprising a polyurethane foam matrix having disposed therein polyvinyl chloride in particulate form having an average particle si ze of less than about 25 .mu.m, the polyvinyl chloride being at least partially modifie d. A process for producing the polyurethane foam is also described. A polyol dispersion u seful in the production of the polyurethane foam comprises a particulate solid materi al dispersed in a polyol, the particulate solid material being present in an amount in th e range of from about 1 to about 70 percent by weight of the polyol dispersion, the par ticulate solid material consisting essentially of from about 1 to 100 percent by weig ht of polyvinyl chloride and from 0 to about 99 percent by weight of a second soli d, the polyvinyl chloride having an average particle size of less than about 25 .mu .m. A process for producing the polyurethane foam is also described. It is suspected that a potential chemical inter-reaction between the partially modified polyvinyl chloride an d the nascent polyurethane plays a large role in the enhanced load properties of t he polyurethane foam.
