PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a whitening agent and a skin care preparation containing the same, using a function of a dendritic growth-suppressing effect of melaocyte. SOLUTION: The skin care preparation such as the cosmetic contains the dendritic growth-suppressing effect of melaocyte comprising alpha-curcumene. The preparation contains the alpha-curcumene in a form of a purified compound or an extract of a crude drug. The preferable extract of the crude drug comprises Commiphora molmol in the family Burseraceae, and the extract that is obtained by extracting the stem or resin of the Commiphora molmol in a non-polar solvent, removing a polar part by a liquid-liquid extraction and then distilling away the solvent under reduced pressure, is preferably used.
