METHOD FOR REMOVING MANGANESE AND EQUIPMENT THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably remove manganese bonding to organic matter.

SOLUTION: Raw water is mixed in a mixing tank 14 with an oxidizing agent such as sodium hypochlorite from an oxidizing agent storage tank 22. This oxidation-treated water is filtered in a two-layer filter 32 to obtain treated water. The turbidity of the water flowing in the filter 32 is measured with a turbidimeter 46. When the oxidizing agent is added enough, manganese is oxidized and insolubilized to color the oxidation-treated water and this coloration can be detected with the turbidimeter 46. Manganese is reliably removed by controlling the amount of the oxidizing agent added according to the detected value of the turbidimeter 46.
