PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus capable of cladding by welding on a rolling surface of a wheel in a assembling state of the wheel. SOLUTION: A truck roller 100 for integrating a wheel 1 with a shaft 101 or the like is supported in the water W so that a part 11a of the surface 11 of the wheel is exposed over the water surface F. The truck roller is rotated in a very slow speed of 2 to 3 revolutions per hour by a rotary drive unit 5, and welding works are performed by reciprocating a torch 63 by a welding robot 6 to a width X direction of the wheel. Multi-layered cladding is performed by lifting the torch to a Z direction at each revolution, and the water surface F is simultaneously raised by the height of a cladding portion by means of water level adjusting mechanism 43 so as to fit a welded portion under the water surface within a specific time. Thus, while a bearing portion or the like is protected by surely cooling, the welded portion is quenched by rapid cooling as it is. The rolling surface of the wheel is repaired in a simple method so as to reuse it in safety. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
