PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decomposing dioxins to decompose and remove dioxins included in fly ash or the like under favorable conditions of workability and handling property. SOLUTION: Chromic acid or a chromate is added to a suspension of water and a substance containing dioxins and the suspension is heated under acidic conditions to boil. Or, a hypochlorite is added to the suspension of water and the substance containing dioxins and the suspension is heated in a neutral region to boil. Dioxins can be decomposed at a temperature as low as around the boiling point of the reaction solution, which makes highly efficient decomposition of dioxins possible, in particular, with the use of inexpensive treatment techniques.
