PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater that has less possibility of bacteria propaga tion even when an electric power is turned off. SOLUTION: The water heater has a water supply channel 3 that has a switchgear 4, a container 6 for retaining hot water mounted with a heating device 7 at the bottom which can boil the water and retain its heat, a hot water discharge channel 8 of which the one end is connected to the container 6 and which has a hot water discharging opening on the other end, a hot water discharging device 9 applied to the middle of the hot water discharge channel 8, and a control device 12 for controlling the heating device 7 having a power source controlling function provided to the control device 12. In case the power is turned off while the liquid contained inside the container is heated, the possibility of the bacteria propagation is reduced even when the power is turned off by once increasing the temperature of the liquid inside the container by heating the liquid to a predetermined temperature and then turning the power off.
