<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus with a simple structure and a small size capable of producing a reformed gas which contains a reduced amount of carbon monoxide and is rich in hydrogen. <P>SOLUTION: A gas introducing part 22 always supplies a methane gas from a channel end 22a and steam from a channel end 22b. Thereby, a reforming device 24 is divided into a methane-introducing part 24at0 into which a methane gas is introduced and a steam-introducing part 24bt0 into which steam is introduced. At the methane-introducing part 24at0, a hydrogen gas and carbon are produced in the presence of a reforming catalyst by supplying only methane, and the carbon is adsorbed to the reforming catalyst. Almost no carbon monoxide is produced at this time. Then, the reforming device 24 is rotated, and steam is now introduced into the methane-introducing part 24at0. Thus, when steam is introduced, the adsorbed carbon reacts with the steam by the reforming catalyst to cause the desorption of carbon and regeneration of the catalyst.
