A dump body for a dump truck or trailer has a half-pipe cross section at the cab end transitioning to a rectangular cross section at the dump end. Dump loads, especially slightly adhesive dump loads such as asphalt or damp sand, are less likely to adhere to the raised end when dumping, compared to a conventional rectangular dump body. Transitioning to a rectangular cross section at the dump end provides more even load distribution across the dump end compared to a conventional half-pipe dump body. In a particular embodiment, the center of gravity of the load is moved further toward the rear wheels during transit, and is kept lower during dumping than with conventional dump bodies.
