PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of controlling the heating behavior to a medium to be recorded so as to optimally perform heating and subliming fixing treatment. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is constituted so that the medium 1 to be recorded having ink applied to its surface layer as print dots is heated by a heater 4 using a printing head 2 controlled in driving on the basis of printing data formed from image data and the ink applied to the surface layer is sublimed to be fixed to the fixing layer of the medium 1 to be recorded. A sublimation degree calculation part 91 for calculating the degree of sublimation of ink in the medium 1 to be recorded from the image data from a CCD camera 90 is provided and the heating behavior to the medium 1 to be recorded is controlled on the basis of the degree of sublimation.
