PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polymer being applied on a surface or in a fibrous material and exhibiting biocidal activity on it. SOLUTION: This method for using the polymer expressed by following formula (1) [wherein, R1is a 1-4C alkylene, R2, R3are independently each other an 8-12C alkyl or alkenyl, R4is methyl or ethyl, and R5is H or methyl] and having 1,000-100,000 g/mol molecular weight, for a biocidal finishing treatment of the surface or the fibrous material.
