PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus in which an optimal quantity of laser light can be set at the time of printing. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises a semiconductor laser for forming a latent image on a photosensitive body of electrophotographic system, a photodetector element for detecting the quantity of light emitted from the semiconductor laser in the form of a current, a means performing current/ voltage conversion of the output from the photodetector element, a means for comparing a monitor voltage, i.e., the conversion results from the current/voltage conversion means, with a reference voltage, a means for supplying a reference voltage, and a laser driving means for controlling emission of the semiconductor laser depending on the comparison results from the voltage comparing means wherein the reference voltage supplying means has a means for smoothing a pulse width modulation signal into analog voltage information and supplies the output voltage from the smoothing means as the reference voltage.
