PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head check device which determines a disconnection of a thermal head quickly and accurately. SOLUTION: The device is equipped with the thermal head having plural heating elements arranged in line; a first supply means which supplies a check signal from a front end, and a second supply means which supplies the check signal from a back end, to each heating element; a counting means which counts, in synchronism with the check signal supplied to an input terminal of the thermal head from the first or second supply means, number of defect signals when a check response signal of the first or second output from an output terminal of the thermal head is determined to be abnormal; and a control means which outputs an error signal when both count numbers, counted by the counting means, of the first and second defect signals exceed a given count number.
