PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for butt welding, and a butt welded product provided with the same method capable of eliminating grinding or the like which finishes end faces of two welded plate materials to be butted prior to butt welding. SOLUTION: A pair of electrode rollers 3 and 4 are arranged on both sides of a thick plate material 1 and thin plate material 2 in which the end faces 1A and 2A are butted each other, and first portions 3A and 4A pressing the thick plate material 1 when butt welding is started are arranged on the electrode rollers 3 and 4 having a thickness mounting on both of the plate materials 1 and 2. The end face 1A of the thick plate material 1 is surely kept in contact with the end face 2A of the thin plate material 2 by projectingly deforming to a thin plate material 2 side. An electric passage passing along a butting portion 6 is provided so that second portions 3B and 4B are kept in contact with the thin plate material 2, and a nugget mounting on both plate materials 1 and 2 is therein formed.
