PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method of producing giant molecular crystals or low molecular crystals simply with high reproductivity and multiplicity and provide an apparatus for producing the same. SOLUTION: In the method of producing giant molecular crystals, a solution of a giant molecule is irradiated with light to form nuclei of the giant molecular crystal and/or grow the crystals. In this case, the giant molecule means protein, polypeptide, glycoprotein and nucleic acid. The light to be irradiated preferably includes a wavelength range that causes electron transition in the giant molecule. This crystallization process can be applied to low molecular crystals, instead. The apparatus has the light radiation part for forming nuclei of giant molecular or low molecular crystals and/or for growing the crystals. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
