PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of rapidly stabilizing image data when image data is formed by using general ink and capable of rapidly transfer when image data is formed by using sublimable ink. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a feed mechanism A for feeding a medium M to be recorded in a main feed direction and a printing head 32 for forming image data on the medium M to be recorded fed by the feed mechanism A when operated in a main scanning direction. A heating mechanism H is attached to the printing head 32 and when the printing head 32 is operated reciprocatively in the main scanning direction and the heat from the heating mechanism H is allowed to act on the image data printed on the medium M to be recorded.
