PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably detect operation of a clamp rod in a rotary clamp. SOLUTION: The clamp rod 5 inserted in a housing 3 is driven with clamping toward a bottom end wall 3b of the housing 3 after rotated around the axial center. A detecting hole 58 is formed in the bottom end wall 3b, nearly on the same axial center as that of the clamp rod 5. An inlet hole 71 for supplying compressed air is formed on the peripheral surface of the detecting hole 58, and a bottom end of the detecting hole 58 communicates to the outside air. A detecting rod 62 is inserted into the detecting hole 58 so as to be freely moved in the vertical direction and freely rotated around the axial center. A closing surface 68 and a dent portion 69 are provided in the circumference direction on the outer peripheral surface of the detecting rod 62, and the detecting rod 62 is joined to the clamp rod 5. After rotated from the rotating retraction position X to the clamping preparation position Y in association with the movement of the clamp rod 5, the detecting rod 62 runs straight to the clamping position Z.
