PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing sulfate ions capable of efficiently removing sulfate ions from waste water in which sulfate ions are contained. SOLUTION: In the method for removing sulfate ions, calcium ions and aluminum ions are allowed to coexist with sulfate ion-containing water to be treated and the pH of the water is kept in a prescribed range to precipitate a sulfuric acid-containing compound containing sulfate ions, thereby lowering the sulfate ion concentration of the water to be treated.
