Gas fired cupola furnace for producing high quality cast iron has protruding parts of fireproof material in rows in the chamber walls for superheating the material of molten metal above the burners which disentegrate the drops for the molten metal flowing from the bottom shoulder into the sump. Pref., the protruding parts are inserted in cells in the chamber coating.
