PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base fabric for an air bag having≤1.2 cm<SP>3</SP>/sec/cm<SP>2</SP>quantity of air flow under 1.27 cm pressure drop of the fabric and about 10% difference in bending resistance between the warp and the weft directions. SOLUTION: The base fabric for the air bag is obtained by using a modified cross-section filament yarn having 5-50% hollowness of cross section of single filaments and≤3.5 flatness degree and further not only mechanical characteristics but also low gas permeability and≤10% difference in bending resistance between the warp and the weft directions because the surface of the base fabric is coated with a resin as the filament yarn constituting the base fabric for the air bag. The resultant base fabric for the air bag has housing properties and reduces collision energy during shock. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
