Conversion of branched (co)polymers (II) (specifically polyolefins) into other (co)polymers (I) having different average molecular weights and chemical structures involves contacting (II) with a catalyst (A) comprising a metal hydride or organometallic complex supported on a mineral carrier, preferably in presence of hydrogen, under conditions such that the branches of (II) are preferentially cleaved. Independent claims are included for the products (I) obtained by the process; and compositions or finished or semi-finished products containing (I).
