Individual checking or tally device that is carried or worn by an individual within a work environment comprises a data receiver (10), a data recorder (12), a device for converting the data (14) into a format that can be read by the operating system (18) and a device for transferring the converted data to a PC (20). The data are spatial and temporal data relating to an individual within the work environment. The data receiver device associated with the individual checking device is a GSM or UMTS receiver, while the conversion device is used to convert satellite positioning data, such as GPS, data into data compatible with a GSM or UMTS network.
