摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quantum dot diode type rectifier that can give the rectifying operation of current within a voltage range by utilizing the phenomenon of Coulomb blockade. SOLUTION: In the quantum dot diode type rectifier, first, second, and third quantum dots 1, 2, and 3 comprising artificial atoms are provided; the first quantum dot 1 is connected to a source electrode 4 via a tunnel junction 11; the first quantum dot 1 is connected to the second quantum dot 2 by a tunnel junction 12; the second quantum dot 2 is connected to a drain electrode 5 via a tunnel junction 13; the third quantum dot 3 is connected to the first quantum dot 1 by a tunnel junction 14; the third quantum dot 3 is connected to the second quantum dot 2 only by a capacitive coupling 17 due to capacitance; electrostatic gate electrodes 6, 7, and 8 are connected to respective quantum dots 1, 2, and 3; and the Coulomb blockade phenomenon in single-electron tunneling among the quantum dots is utilized.
