PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single layered sound-absorbing material which is used for vehicles, is free from a skin, is wholly integrated, and is useful as dashboard insulators for automobiles, electric trains, and the like. SOLUTION: A mat is prepared by laminating laps obtained by blending 50 to 90 wt.% of at least two kinds of ordinary fibers having different single fiber finenesses in a fineness range of 0.1 to 10 denier with 10 to 50 wt.% of thermally fusible fibers having a single fiber fineness of 1 to 20 denier and melting when heated and pressed. The front side portion of the mat is needle- punched to form a felt. The back side portion maintains a cotton-like fiber tissue. The front side and back side portions of the mat are heated and pressed at a prescribed temperature to form the wholly integrated single layered sound- absorbing material having a thickness of 5 to 60 mm.
