PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-strength deformed wire for a submarine optical fiber cable which is used for forming a pressure layer of the submarine optical cable and shows a tensile strength of≥1,800 MPa. SOLUTION: The deformed wire for reinforcing the submarine optical fiber cable comprises >0.65 mass% but≤1.1 mass% C, wherein a carbon equivalent calculated by the equation: Ceq=C+1/4Si+1/5Mn+4/13Cr satisfies the inequality: 0.80%≤Ceq≤1.80%. The deformed wire has the number of shear zones that traverse a central axis of a cross section L being≤20 per 1 mm of the length of the central axis, wherein angles of the shear zones against the central axis are within the range of 10-90°, shows a tensile strength of≥1.800 MPa, exhibits a nearly fan-shaped cross section and a matte surface with surface irregularities of 0.2-5μm deep and has at least one weld zone in its longitudinal direction. A structure with a circular, hollow cross section for housing the optical fiber is formed by combining multiple nearly fan-shaped wire. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
