PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of a liquid crystal device and a display device in which a good gray displaying is conducted without deteriorating contrast and generating flickering and cross talk or the like. SOLUTION: A multiplex driven liquid crystal device is made of by interposing a liquid crystal layer between a substrate having scanning electrodes X<SB>1</SB>, X<SB>2</SB>,... and a substrate having signal electrodes Y<SB>1</SB>, Y<SB>2</SB>,.... A plurality of the scanning electrodes is successively and simultaneously selected, the selected period is divided into a plurality of intervals and a weighted voltage corresponding to desired display data is applied to each of the divided and selected intervals so as to conduct the gray displaying.
