The use of salt compounds (I) having a triorganosilyl-substituted anion is claimed as catalysts for the (cyclo)condensation of (preferably (cyclo)aliphatic) isocyanates (A). The use of salt compounds (I) is claimed as catalysts for the cyclocondensation of (preferably (cyclo)aliphatic) isocyanates (A), where (I) are silicon-containing salts of formula (I') or (I')/(A) reaction products containing an anion as in (I'). M<+> = 1 equivalent of a co-cation; Y = O<->; or hydrocarbyl containing a negative charge carried by a Group VB atom (preferably N) or O and bonded to Si via a Group VB element (preferably N); R1 - R3 = 1-30C hydrocarbyl (specifically saturated or unsaturated (cyclo)aliphatic, aralkyl, aryl or alkaryl), optionally substituted by one or more of halo, CN and ester residues and optionally interrupted by one or more of O, N and Si. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) A method for catalytic (cyclo)condensation (specifically (cyclo)trimerization) of (A), involving contacting (A) with (I) at 20-200 (preferably 40-150) deg C until a degree of conversion of 5-95 (preferably 10-50)% is reached and optionally removing unreacted (A) or reacting with other compounds reactive with the isocyanate function. (2) Isocyanate compositions obtained as in (a). |
