<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic musical instrument in which occurrence of deterioration in timbre is suppressed in a dual mode especially when timbre belonging to the same category are simultaneously sounded in a superimposed manner. <P>SOLUTION: In steps S9 and S11, it is judged that a timbre selection switch is operated in twice on a operating panel. Then, in a step S13, it is judged whether two pieces of selected timbre belong to the same category or not. When it is judged that the respective selected timbre belong to different categories, a normal dual mode is set.
