PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electronic camera which indicates the number of remaining frames recordable on a memory card even with a power switch set off. SOLUTION: When a memory card 106 is judged to be mounted, an arithmetic circuit 101 displays the number of remaining frames of the memory card 106 at the time when the card 106 is judged to be not mounted yet with numerical segments 27 on a display 12 for a specified period of time. If the memory card 106 is judged to be not mounted but mounted in the past, the arithmetic circuit 101 displays a mark '-E-' for indicating the memory card 106 is not mounted on the display 12 with its numerical segments 27 (Fig. 3) for a specified period of time. Thus, when the card 106 is inserted or drawn out, the display 12 indicates the number of remaining frames or no card mounted, without setting on a main switch 11 of the camera.
