The pollution reduction system, comprising a catalyzer (6) to trap oxides of nitrogen in a diesel engine exhaust (4) and a regenerator to eliminate, at least partially, the gases absorbed by the catalyzer, incorporates a hydrogen injector (8) upstream of the catalyzer and a controller for the amount of hydrogen injected during the regeneration phase. The pollution reduction system, comprising a catalyzer (6) to trap oxides of nitrogen in a diesel engine exhaust (4) and a regenerator to eliminate, at least partially, the gases absorbed by the catalyzer, incorporates a hydrogen injector (8) upstream of the catalyzer and a controller for the amount of hydrogen injected during the regeneration phase, designed to ensure that sufficient hydrogen is injected to raise the temperature, by an exothermic reaction in the presence of oxygen, to a sufficient level to regenerate the catalyst. The system also includes a particle filter (7), mounted in series with the catalyzer, which is regenerated by the same exothermic reaction, and a controller (10) that offsets the injection of fuel to the engine during the regeneration phase and increase the quantity of reducing gases in the exhaust. |
