PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an adjusting speed from decreasing while improving focusing precision and to make fast the focusing adjustment, specially, in micro defocusing. SOLUTION: A method for automatic focus adjustment which uses a 1st focus adjustment part (6) roughly adjusting a focal length and a 2nd focus adjustment part (4) finely adjusting the focal length comprises: detecting a focusing state (S105); judging whether a focusing point is in the range of the focal length adjustable by the 2nd focus adjustment part (S107); and adjusting the focal length by the 2nd focus adjustment part while fixing the 1st focus adjustment part when it is judged that the focusing point is within the range of the focal length adjustable by the 2nd focus adjustment part.
