<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical repeater for relieving traffic to be lost when changing an optical path due to the occurrence of a failure and by manual switching on an optical network. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical repeater 1 having an optical cross-connection part 4 for repeating an optical signal to be transmitted via a path established on the optical network to another device in an optical area, it is provided with an optic/electric conversion switch 5 that mutually converts the optical signal and an electric signal, an internal buffer 6 that temporarily stores the electric signal converted by the optic/electric conversion switch 5 and a control means for storing the optical signal inputted in the optical cross-connection part 4 in the internal buffer 6 after converting it into the electric signal by the optic/electric conversion switch 5 when the failure is caused in the path, for constituting a new path from the optical cross-connection part 4 and for transmitting the new path to other optical repeater after converting data stored in the internal buffer 6 into the optical signal by the optic/electric conversion switch 5 when the new path is established. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
