PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile apparatus which retrieves a file from a World Wide Web (WWW) server using a file transfer protocol (FTP) and transmits the file to its destination by facsimile. SOLUTION: This facsimile apparatus is connected to a directory of a WWW server of a LAN by an FTP and determines whether a text information file is in the server based on the file extension. If the file is in the server, the apparatus fetches it from the server and extracts destination information from the name of the fetched file. Then it converts the file into a format which can be transmitted by facsimile, and transmits the converted file to the address of the destination information through a public circuit by facsimile (Steps S101 to S107).
