PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copper material having improved discharge abrasion resistance which is an issue in parts such as contacts of switches, by improving the strength and the hardness without adding any metallic component except copper while maintaining superior electroconductivity and thermal conductivity of copper. SOLUTION: The copper material includes, by weight, 0.3-2.0% oxygen and the balance copper with unavoidable impurities, wherein most of the above oxygen is dispersed in a parent phase of copper, as particles of cuprous oxide (Cu<SB>2</SB>O) having particle diameters of 0.1-2μm.
