PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system such as a focus-controllable lens system or a variable-focus lens system which has reduced power consumptions, ensures noiseless operation and fast response and contributes to cost reductions for the reason of simplified structure. SOLUTION: In an optical device comprising: an element 409 having variable optical properties; and an image plane 612, the image plane 612 is placed in the range of movement of an image-formation surface associated with the change in the element 409 in order to correct the movement of the image- formation surface of the optical system 614 associated with the change of the element 409.
