PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which a degradation in picture quality owing to uneven visibility is prevented while rubbing unevenness and spacer falling are prevented. SOLUTION: The gap between a thin-film switching element substrate 1 and a counter substrate 2 which is positioned on the opposite side across liquid crystal 3 is held by columnar spacers 4a and between adjacent spacers 4a, dummy spacers 4b which are shorter than the spacers 4a are arranged on the thin-film switching element substrate 1 instead of the spacers 4a which are normally arranged. The dummy spacers 4b are short, then, hardly fall owing to rubbing. Besides, the alignment defect of the liquid crystal 3 due to a liquid pool of an alignment material 10 is caused even around the dummy spacers similarly to around the spacers 4a and light sneaking due to the uniform alignment defect is caused at the part where the spacer 4a is arranged and the part where the dummy spacer 4b is arranged, and thus no contrast occurs between those parts and a degradation in picture quality due to uneven visibility can be prevented.
