PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method of detecting the walking direction of a movable body. SOLUTION: An acceleration data control part 11 obtains a vertical acceleration component and a horizontal acceleration component, which is orthogonal to the vertical direction, measured by an acceleration sensor 6 during walking. A vertical component peak detection part 13 detects maximum and minimum peaks of changes in the vertical acceleration component. A horizontal component peak detection part 14 detects maximum and minimum peaks of changes in the horizontal acceleration component in the range between the vertical acceleration component shows the maximum and minimum peaks. A walking angle calculation part 15 calculates a direction of the horizontal acceleration component when the horizontal acceleration component shows the maximum. An angle change part 15-1 adopts the specified direction corresponding to the direction as a detection result of the walking direction. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
