The present invention relates to nucleic acid molecules that regulate the expression of heterologous nucleic acid sequences to which they are transcriptionally linked. In particular, the invention relates to a nucleic acid molecule that promotes the expression of a heterologous nucleic acid sequence in retinal cells. Methods of tracking retinal development and of isolating retinal progenitor cells are also provided.
