<p>A pre-processor partially or fully decompresses a compressed video bitstream and possibly lightly compresses the resulting partially/fully decompressed video data to generate video data in a second format different from that of the original bitstream. The video data in the second format is then stored for subsequent retrieval and possible further processing for display. By pre-processing the compressed video bitstream, the subsequent retrieval and further processing is able to achieve real-time display of the video content of the original bitstream using relatively inexpensive equipment. Depending on the implementation, the subsequent further processing may involve undoing the light compression and/or completing the decompression of the original bitstream to generate display-ready video data.</p> |
