Database maintenance method for a database that is stored in a computer system that can be accessed via a communications medium such as SMS, MMS or WAP. The method has the following steps: user connects to a database using his access authentication; the user selects a data record, which the computer system transmits to him together with a TAN, or transaction authorization number; the user modifies the records and sends it, with the TAN, back to the computer system and database; the computer system checks the TAN against the original TAN and updates the database if the TANs match.
