A compact cleaning system for a print roller, or similar layer applying roller, is inserted into the press on a guide system parallel to the roller axis. The cleaning roller is mounted on a parallelogram system and is brought into contact with the print roller via a servo drive. The servo drive operates a thrust bar connected to the support linkage.
