<p>The present invention relates to a magnetic seal and bearing arrangement which comprises a shaft (2) rotatable within a housing (12), a magnetic fluid-based seal assembly (10) arranged to form at least one seal of magnetic fluid between the shaft (2) and the housing (12), and a first air bearing (8a) which in use radially supports the shaft (2) in order to minimise unwanted radial motion of the shaft (2). The arrangement preferably includes a second air bearing (8b, 36, 38) which axially supports the shaft.</p> |
