The present invention is concerned with a process for the formation of dental restorations from glass-ceramic materials and the resulting dental restorations. A dental restoration is formed by pressing a lithium discilicate glass ceramic where the concentration of lithium discilicate crystals in the glass ceramic composition is at least 30% by weight. Crystal formation is effected with P2O5. The glass ceramic material may further contain coloring oxides, fluoresing agents, pigments, opacifiers and glass modifiers. The resulting dental restorations have superior optical, esthetic and strength properties. |
