A process for efficiently producing a carbonic ester in high yield from an aromatic or aliphatic monohydroxy compound without using phosgene or chlorine gas and without using a halogenated organic solvent; and a process for producing a polycarbonate from an aromatic or aliphatic dihydroxy compound in one step in high yield. The former process comprises subjecting an aromatic or aliphatic monohydroxy compound to oxidative carbonylation with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a palladium catalyst and, according to need, of a redox catalyst, promoter such as an onium compound, and dehydrant in a compound having a carbonate bond as a reaction solvent to produce a carbonic ester. The dehydrant is preferably zeolite having a particle diameter of 300 µm or smaller. The latter process comprises subjecting an aromatic or aliphatic dihydroxy compound to oxidative carbonylation with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a palladium catalyst and, according to need, of a redox catalyst, promoter such as an onium compound, and dehydrant in a compound having a carbonate bond as a reaction solvent to produce a polycarbonate. Propylene carbonate is preferable as the compound having a carbonate bond serving as the reaction solvent.
|
