The invention relates to a method for improving the abrasion resistance and tensile strength of durable press finished cellulosic materials, such as cotton. According to the method of the present invention the cellulosic material is treated with an enzyme composition capable of removing cross lin ks from the cellulosic material, especially cross links on the material surface .
