The invention relates to an exhaust gas turbocharger (1) with a shaft (2) on which a turbo turbine (4) and a compressor turbine (3) are mounted and which is guided in radial bearings (5, 6) and at least one axial bearing (9). The inventive turbocharger is characterized in that the radial bearings (5, 6) are configured as passive magnetic bearings comprising permanent magnets (23 to 31) that produce axial magnetic fluxes and the axial bearing (9) is configured as an active magnetic bearing comprising a solenoid (55), an axial sensor and a control for controlling the electric power impinging the solenoid (55).
