To thaw an evaporator of a heat pump, with a coolant circuit, the coolant recirculates in the coolant circuit (2) around the compressor (4) and the expansion unit (6) during the thawing phase. A condenser (5) picks up heat to be carried to the evaporator (3) for thawing. The coolant is moved towards the evaporator by heating and expansion in the condenser and/or heat exchanger and/or a coolant flow is generated by additional energy.
