Carbon monoxide by continuous production. The process consists of cracking, in the usual manner, a mixture of a sulphurized gaseous or liquid hydrocarbon with a boiling pt =220 degrees C, steam and a hydrogen-rich gas in the presence of a Ni-containing catalyst to give a so-called rich gas. In the 2nd step the rich gas, to which CO2 has been added, is converted to a relatively high CO-containing gas in the presence of a Ni-containing catalyst. The CO is separated from the mixture at low temperature. Preferably, the hydrocarbon: steam weight ratio in the reacting gas mixture is in the region 1:2 to 1:4. Advantage lies in the continuous nature of the process.
|
