<p>Electrode active materials, preferably having an olivine structure, of the formula: AaMbXY4 wherein (a) A is one or more alkali metals, preferably Li, and 0 < a ≤ 2; (b) M comprises (i) at least one metal capable of undergoing oxidation (ii) at least one +3 oxidation state non-transition metal, and 0 < b < 2; and (c) XY4 is X'04-XY'X, X'04-yY'2y , X'S4, or a mixture thereof, where X' is P, As, Sb, Si, Ge, V, S, or a mixture thereof; X' is P, As, Sb, Si, Ge, V, or a mixture thereof; Y' is halogen, S, N, or a mixture thereof; 0 ( x ≤3; and 0 < y ≤2. Preferably 0.8 ≤ a ≤ 1.2, and 0.9 ≤ b ≤ 1. Preferably, M comprises one or more additional non-transition metals. Also provided are electrodes and batteries comprising a material of this invention.</p> |
